Street Chic

  Post 10
It is amazing who we look to as our fashion idols, all the way from Lady Gaga to Kim Kardashian. We may not even realize how much we take into consideration what idols like these are wearing. Yet, in being so heavily exposed to them we little by little accept and adopt aspects of their style, whether they are credible in the fashion world or not.
Young girls are especially susceptible to teen celebrity styles shaping their own looks. I am predicting a strong shift however from the wildly epidemic Hannah Montana/ Miley Cyrus movement towards someone more street chic, like 10 year old Willow Smith. With the debut of her Whip My Hair song, Will and Jada can be proud of their little girl, who has her own uniquely fabulous look. Girls her age can look up to this Willow rather than the controversial Miley and Lindsay who are unfit to be the idols of impressionable young elementary and middle-schoolers. Not to mention my 19 and 20 year old college friends look up to this unbelievably cool up and coming star. Watch out for Willow and the street chic look!

The Elephant in the Room..or on the Runway

  Post 6
Fashion Week is a time for designers to showcase their artwork to the world. Runway shows have been the most popular way to get a brand or specific designer into the apparel marketplace, not simply to sell product, but to gain acceptance and familiarity within the fashion scene. There has been a recent shift however, in this popular trend and designers and companies alike are searching for more interactive and intriguing ways to capture the eye, and heart of consumers.

In this video, Masquerade Wine Company in an attempt to release their new Effervescing Elephant Champagne, has paired up with the Asian Elephant Art and Conservation Project based in New York City and put on a fund raising trunk show. The fabric to make the featured dresses was sent to conservatories around the world, on which the elephants painted unique designs. Take a look at this inventive trunk show collaboration and watch for the beautiful designs handcrafted by elephants!

Color Stories

  Post 5
This season and from what I am predicting for future seasons, based on runways and streets alike, I see an overall brightening of garments. More of the textiles used in the creation of our favorite pieces will not be the grays, blacks or neutrals that we are so used to. Here we are, men and women ready to take on a new color story, one of bright and bold colors. Oranges, reds, blues and greens; the color wheel is at our finger tips and I for one am very ready for it!

Shades of Color

 Post 4
In watching videos and looking through pictures of all of this years Fall 2011 runway shows I noted a key color that kept reappearing. From Derek Lam to Balenciaga to Diane Von Furstenberg, all used a pop of a strong and festive fall color; orange. Burnt orange or bright orange, both walked down the runways as dresses, leggings and many other pieces. The color is not only perfect for the season but perfect to brighten our dreary dark and gray wardrobes we seemed to accumulate during the recession. It's time to enjoy a splash of color again, just in time for the changing leaves!

Shoe Smarts

 Post 3
In this industry it is important that we look to our favorite designer collections and fashion magazines to view the evolution of fashion from one season to the next. They along with other channels such as  fashion forecasters give us expertise on what trends are current and up and coming, an important resource for those in the industry as well as everyday Fashionistas.  But we can also look to whats being worn in the streets around the globe to inspire us and see what is hot right now. New York is a great place to start with all of its incredibly unique and stylish individuals. I found that walking through the streets of NYC there is a trend that is growing in popularity, a shift away from the casual flip flop is now heading toward a dressier shoe. I see the more and more women not afraid to take on a heel, seeing the wedge as the best way to dress up any look without enduring a six inch Louboutin. The days of $5.00 Old Navy flip flops are over, making way for Oxfords, wedges, boots and more chic, dressy shoes.

From Trendland.net, these everyday women and even men sport their favorite oxford looks

Gweneth, Jessica and others wear their oxfords as their everyday glamour item to dress up a casual look.

Tapered Perfection

Post 2
Fashion forecasting is no easy task. Forecasters devote their efforts to predicting whether a trend has the potential to succeed  and continue on, or perish quickly as a fad. In my research and observances of the city folk and celebs alike, I find that minimalism seems to be taking a turn for an increasingly popular trend in the coming seasons. By 2011 I see an intriguing and adorable piece making its way into the closets of many women. The simple, black tapered pant. We can think of one person who wore these pants like no other, Audrey Hepburn. Her simple yet classic look allows for a woman to buy these basic black pants and match it with almost any other garment in her wardrobe to look utterly chic.

The Gap, Michael Kors (shown below), Helmut Lang, and others have their work in stores and on runways already. While only some have added this tapered pant to their work and weekend wear, I see this key piece as being a popular trend in the coming 2011 seasons.

Sheer Freedom

As I walk down the streets of the West Side and down Fashion Avenue, I can't help but notice the many fall back to school key items that they are sporting. Most of which I am well versed in between my readings of Vogue and InStyle; the animal prints, the chunky heels, the tights and leggings, even the green cargo pants and military appeal. However there is one that catches me off guard, I see sheer fabric after sheer fabric, shoulder, bra strap and even stomachs. The sheer fabrics top shows incredible amounts of skin and undergarments. Back home in suburb Connecticut I can't say I'm used to seeing such..well SO much. While I prefer the more classic looks with less transparent tops, I will try to have an open mind to those who feel comfortable sporting the apparent back to school fashion item of 2010.

Here goes nothing!

Hey followers:) Hopefully there will be more of you as I get the hang of this new blog adventure! I am very excited to be giving this a try and think it will be a great next step to my existence in the social media world. I'll be posting my first real assignment very soon, so here goes nothing!
