Color Stories

  Post 5
This season and from what I am predicting for future seasons, based on runways and streets alike, I see an overall brightening of garments. More of the textiles used in the creation of our favorite pieces will not be the grays, blacks or neutrals that we are so used to. Here we are, men and women ready to take on a new color story, one of bright and bold colors. Oranges, reds, blues and greens; the color wheel is at our finger tips and I for one am very ready for it!

Shades of Color

 Post 4
In watching videos and looking through pictures of all of this years Fall 2011 runway shows I noted a key color that kept reappearing. From Derek Lam to Balenciaga to Diane Von Furstenberg, all used a pop of a strong and festive fall color; orange. Burnt orange or bright orange, both walked down the runways as dresses, leggings and many other pieces. The color is not only perfect for the season but perfect to brighten our dreary dark and gray wardrobes we seemed to accumulate during the recession. It's time to enjoy a splash of color again, just in time for the changing leaves!

Shoe Smarts

 Post 3
In this industry it is important that we look to our favorite designer collections and fashion magazines to view the evolution of fashion from one season to the next. They along with other channels such as  fashion forecasters give us expertise on what trends are current and up and coming, an important resource for those in the industry as well as everyday Fashionistas.  But we can also look to whats being worn in the streets around the globe to inspire us and see what is hot right now. New York is a great place to start with all of its incredibly unique and stylish individuals. I found that walking through the streets of NYC there is a trend that is growing in popularity, a shift away from the casual flip flop is now heading toward a dressier shoe. I see the more and more women not afraid to take on a heel, seeing the wedge as the best way to dress up any look without enduring a six inch Louboutin. The days of $5.00 Old Navy flip flops are over, making way for Oxfords, wedges, boots and more chic, dressy shoes.

Tapered Perfection

Post 2
Fashion forecasting is no easy task. Forecasters devote their efforts to predicting whether a trend has the potential to succeed  and continue on, or perish quickly as a fad. In my research and observances of the city folk and celebs alike, I find that minimalism seems to be taking a turn for an increasingly popular trend in the coming seasons. By 2011 I see an intriguing and adorable piece making its way into the closets of many women. The simple, black tapered pant. We can think of one person who wore these pants like no other, Audrey Hepburn. Her simple yet classic look allows for a woman to buy these basic black pants and match it with almost any other garment in her wardrobe to look utterly chic.

The Gap, Michael Kors (shown below), Helmut Lang, and others have their work in stores and on runways already. While only some have added this tapered pant to their work and weekend wear, I see this key piece as being a popular trend in the coming 2011 seasons.
